Thailand Visa Types

Tourist Visa

This type of visa will be issued to applicants who wishing to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for tourism purposes
- maximum stay not exceeding 60 days.

Documents Required :

  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
  • Visa application form completely filled out
  • Two recent( 4 x 5 cm.) photographs of the applicant
  • Air ticket paid in full (round trip)
  • Financial means (20,000 Bahts per person and 40,000 Bahts per family)
  • Consular officers reserve the rights to request for additional documents as deemed necessary

Fees (per entry): US $25.00 / GBP 25.00 / CA $30.00 / AUSD $45.00

Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their status of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road, Bangkok 10120 , Tel (662) 287-3101-10


Non-Immigrant Visa

The holders of this type of visa are initially granted a period of stay in the Kingdom not exceeding 90 days - Those qualified persons can obtain an additional one year stay permit counting from the date of entry in the Kingdom pertaining to the Office of the Immigration Bureau's regulations on extension of stay. N.B. Applicants wishing to stay in the Kingdom longer than 90 days, have to file their application either at the Thai consular mission aboard or at the Office of Immigration Bureau in Bangkok located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road,Bangkok 10120 , Tel (662) 287-3101-10 (or website at (http://www.police.go.th/thaiimb/frconten.htm ) . The consular officer must refer the case to the Office of Immigration Bureau for approval. Upon receiving approval, the consular officer may issue the visa as instructed by the Bureau.
This type of visa is designed for applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom of Thailand for the following purposes.

To conduct business / to work (Category "B") - Documents Required:

  • Visa application form completely filled out
  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and its copy
  • Two 4 x 6 cm full-faced , bareheaded photos taken within the past six months
  • Evidence of adequate finance ( 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family )
  • Letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (Alien Occupational Control Division, Department of Employment , Tel 662-2452745, 245-3209, 617-6578, 617-6584 Fax. 662-6176576, 245-2593)
  • Official Note certifying the purpose of travel from the Government Agencies /Embassies and Consulates / International Organizations / State Enterprises in Thailand. ("F" / "B" / "ED" / "M" / "R")
  • Letter from a company stating the objective of the visit to Thailand
  • Document showing correspondence with trading partners in Thailand
  • Letter of invitation from companies qualified to employ foreigners.
  • Employment contract indicating rationale for hiring the applicant as well as his/her salary, position and qualifications (document must be signed by authorized managing director and affixed the seal of the company)
  • Copy of Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (only in case the applicant has previously worked in the Kingdom )
  • Copy of corporate documents; namely 1) list of shareholders 2) business registration and business license 3) company profile 4) details of business operation 5) list of foreign workers stating names, nationalities and positions 6) map indicating the location of the company 7) Balance sheet, statement of Income Tax and BusinessTax (Por Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30) of the latest year 8) Alien income tax return (Por Ngor Dor 91) and 9) Value-added tax registration (Por Ngor Dor 20) , etc.
  • Copy of educational records of the applicant and letters of recommendation from the prior employers, identifying job description and length of service time.
  • Document indicating the number of foreign tourists (for tourism business only),or document indicating export transactions issued by banks (for export business only)
For those foreigners who wish to work in Thailand, their employer in Thailand should submit Form WP3 (Application for applying a work permit on behalf of alien according to Section 3) at the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

To study, to come on a work study tour or observation tour , to participate in projects or seminars , to attend a conference or training course , to study as a foreign Buddhist monk (Category "ED") - Documents Required:

  • Visa application form completely filled out
  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and its copy
  • Two 4 x 6 cm full-faced , bareheaded photos taken within the past six months
  • Evidence of adequate finance ( 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family )
  • Letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (Alien Occupational Control Division, Department of Employment , Tel 662-2452745, 245-3209, 617-6578, 617-6584 Fax. 662-6176576, 245-2593)
  • Transcript/Letter of acceptance from the concerned schools/universities or institutes
  • Official Note certifying the purpose of travel from the Government Agencies /Embassies and Consulates / International Organizations / State Enterprises inThailand. ("F" / "B" / "ED" / "M" / "R")

Visiting Thai spouse, children, parents, voluntary job (Category "O") - Documents Required:

  • Visa application form completely filled out
  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and its copy
  • Two 4 x 6 cm full-faced , bareheaded photos taken within the past six months
  • Evidence of adequate finance ( 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family )
  • Letter of acceptance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (Alien Occupational Control Division, Department of Employment , Tel 662-2452745, 245-3209, 617-6578, 617-6584 Fax. 662-6176576, 245-2593)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of Marriage or its equivalents
  • An official recommendation letter from organization perform voluntary job in Thailand

Retirement Visa "O-A" (Long Stay - For applicants whose age is over 50 years or above) - Documents Required:

  • Validity of passport at least 1 year
  • Three (3) visa application forms and 3 passport size recent photographs
  • Additional application form for Non-Immigrant "O-A" (Long Stay)
  • Copy of bank statement having in possession of annually income equivalent to Thai currency at least 800,000 Baht or monthly income 65,000 Baht.
  • In case attached copy of bank statement as stated above, the original reference letter from the banking concerned is necessary.
  • Criminal Record from own country or country of permanent residence of validity at least 3 months
  • Medical Record proving applicant has never been infected with contagious disease with validity at least 3 months
  • In case wishing to be accompanied by spouse, the marriage certificate will be attached. But spouse will be granted Non-Immigrant "O" in stead of "O-A" (Long Stay)
The above listed documents must be certified by Notary Public or from the competent authority concerned of the country of application. This visa is for persons wishing to take retreat in the Kingdom at least for the period of one (1) year. Applicants can submit their applications at the Thai consular missions aboard. Upon arrival in Thailand, the actual length of stay (1 year) will be determined and granted at Immigration check - point. Once having been in the Kingdom up to 90 days, applicant must report himself/ herself to the authorities concerned and every 90 days, also report can be made by post by fill up the form TM.47 which can be obtained from immigration office (Address: Section 1, Sub-Division 1, Immigration Bureau, Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road, Sathon District, Bangkok 10120. Tel. 0066-22873101-10 ext.2236 ). Once staying in the Kingdom completed 1 year and wishing to extend of stay, this can also be made by submitting the application at the Immigration Bureau, by showing documents of current income.


Visa for English Teacher:
A foreigner who is holding a Thai tourist visa is not permitted to work as an English teacher in Thailand, even on a voluntary basis.
Visa regulation of Thailand concerning the visa applicant from English native speaking countries who wishes to apply for an appropriate visa to work as an English teacher in Thailand both on employment basis and voluntary basis is as follows :

1. On Employment Basis - The applicant must apply for non-immigrant visa, Type "B" at the Royal Thai Embassy. The applicant is required to submit :

  • A copy of education certificate
  • Criminal record clearance certificate
  • Official recommendation letter from the education institution in Thailand to the Embassy
  • Information of the employment term of the applicant in Thailand have to be provided for the Embassy's consideration
Once the applicant arrives Thailand, the education institution will apply a teacher license at the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of University Affairs and also apply for work permit at the Ministry of Labour for the applicant. The work permit will be issued within 7 working days.
After granted teacher license and work permit, the applicant is required to submit teacher license, work permit, employment contract and employment certificate to the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok in order to apply for visa extension to cover the term of employment.

1. On Voluntary Basis:
The applicant must apply for a non-immigrant visa, type "O" at the Embassy. The applicant is required to submit an official recommendation letter from the organization in Thailand to the Embassy. Information on the term of voluntary work of the applicant in Thailand have to be provided for the Embassy's consideration. If the applicant has appropriate qualification, the Embassy will issue a non-immigrant visa, type "O", single entry with three month validity to the applicant within two working days. With this kind of visa, the applicant will be permitted to stay in Thailand not more than 90 days. In case the applicant wishes to extend the duration of stay in Thailand, the applicant is required to apply with the Immigration Bureau in Thailand by enclosing an official introduction letter of the Organization in Thailand.
